  • This is a good time of year to sow seeds, lay sod or renovate your lawn.
  • Compost gardens.
  • Fertilize lawn before winter
  • Divide older perennials (spring bloomers) and replant.
  • Time to plant spring bulbs such as anemones, tulips, daffodils, alliums, hyacinths for a longer blooming season.
  • Deadhead blooming plants to make blooms last longer.
  • Divide iris and replant - but do not plant too deep, they won't bloom.
  • Monitor / adjust irrigation clock.
  • Fall is a good time to plant trees, shurbs and perennials but keep them well watered over the winter.
  • Harvest the rest of your vegetables but leave root vegetables, such as carrots, beets, in the ground for winter harvest if mulched 8" of seedless straw.
