Site Information

Is this an existing yard or is it new?  Is it front yard, backyard or both?  Approximately, what is the square footage that needs to be designed?
Can you provide lots of pictures of your yard – we need to see slopes, access areas, windows where you wish to achieve privacy or scenery (please specify which – privacy or scenery or both), areas where the dog(s) habitually run, go to the bathroom, escape, dig or the desired area for him (or them) to stay in and all existing landscape.
Do you have a Home Owner’s Association?  If so, can you provide the specifications to us?  How detailed are the specifications – in other words, how many pages for the landscape aspect of it?
The Design Goal
What is the most used room of your house, and what part of your property can be seen from that room?
Your Likes & Dislikes
Most people don’t know what they want in their yard for plant material, but they know what they DON’T want, i.e. – yellows, whites, evergreens, high maintenance, flowers, etc. – please tell us what LEAST appeals to you:
Please tell us what you DO want - a pond, retaining wall, sitting area (if so, how big?) vegetable garden, fruit tree orchard, trellis, arbor, outdoor cooking area, fire pit, etc.  Be as specific as can be about the location of the desired features.  If you’re uncertain, we will incorporate them where we feel they work best.
Do you enjoy annuals and/or perennials?

Usage & Family Factors

Do you need any fencing? if so what type?
Probably the most important question – tell us about your dogs!  We need to know their habits, do they eat rock mulch or wood mulch, are they eating trees or other plants, their sizes, their ages (are they young and rambunctious or older and mellow?), their breeds (or mixes), do you foster – if so, what is your maximum and what do you want to prevent them from doing (i.e. – running through the gardens, killing the grass with their urine burns, digging, escaping, etc.) Also, let us know what habits you encourage, i.e. – you allow them to run along fences, continue to go to the bathroom where they’ve been going, you’ve decided you need a dog run area for them, etc. There’s no such thing as too much information, we need as much information about your critters as you can provide!
